Known as Mogador until the 18th century, Essaouira was occupied by the Portuguese in the 16th century and still shows traces of this occupation.
THE BEACH : The beach is well known among professional surfers and sailboarders.
THE PORT: Built in 18th century, this is one of the busiest spots in the city, where fresh fish are auctioned off after the return of hundreds of multi-colored fishing boats.
THE SAKALA: Constructed for pure military purpose, it protected the city against attacks thanks to a collection of bronze European cannons aimed at the ocean.
THE FISH SOUK: It offers a variety of fresh fish straight from the port. Tourists can taste grilled fish right here.
